How to Read the FII Index Futures Long Short Ratio

This page summarizes the long and short contract counts reported for FII index futures in the daily data feed. It shows the position split and the difference between those counts for each available date. These figures describe reported contracts; by themselves, they do not establish investor intent or predict where the market will move.

How the long and short percentages are calculated

Long share is calculated as long contracts ÷ (long contracts + short contracts) × 100. Short share is calculated the same way using short contracts. Net contracts equal long contracts minus short contracts; a positive value means the reported long count is larger, while a negative value means the short count is larger.

Daily changes, source and interpretation

The change shown beneath each long or short count compares it with the previous available date in this feed. The latest data date and the available date range are shown above the table. Ratio bands are descriptive page labels based on the long share: low long share (20% or less), short majority (above 20% through 40%), balanced (above 40% and below 60%), and high long share (60% or more). These bands are not buy or sell signals.
